Proliferative fasciitis is the subcutaneous counterpart of proliferative myositis. The lesions are myofibroblastic proliferation characterized by presence of giant cells resembling osteoclast or ganglion cell. We herein report a case of proliferating fasciitis. A 32-year-old man presented a poorly circumscribed firm mass in his right upper arm that had rapidly growing in size in past 7 days. The mass was histopathologically composed of spindled fibroblasts forming intercalating fascicles in loose, myxoid stroma with focal hemorrhage as well as ganglion-like giant cells. Immunohistochemically, spindle cells were positive for actin, vimentin and negative for S-100 protein and desmin, whereas ganglion like giant cells were only positive for vimentin.
